Vigan Kannawidan 2023

Kannawidann Ylocos Festival became an annual festival that aims to create awareness on the preservation of the province' rich cultural heritage, practices and traditions, and a showcase of the different agriculture and industry products of the province.There is a need to preserve our rich heritage and unique culture. With this in mind, the provincial government of Ilocos Sur has conceived a festival that highlights these culture and traditions and attract local and foreign tourists as well. Dubbed the Kannawidan Ylocos Festival, it is also a commemoration of the anniversary of Ilocos Sur as a province.

Many people dismiss it as a provincial holiday, but if we look more deeply enough, we can find something more to it than that. We all know that in recent years, the world has become more reliant on globalization, which has resulted in a mix of beliefs owing to societal adaption, increasing the odds of becoming a multicultural environment. The absence of events that imprint our cultural legacy may result in a heterogeneous community, which is detrimental to a region's identity. Having a varied community is the beginning of the face being burnt and erased. Kannawidan opposes multiculturalism and promotes the growth of indigenous culture. By constantly promoting the brand, the province avoids losing its mark.
